Sheffield Gets Triple Title Bill, December 13

Sheffield is set for a big night of boxing on December 13 when Fight Night Events bring a triple title fight show to the Hillsborough Leisure Centre.

“Dennis and I will be working on four shows together between now and July, with all of them televised live on Box Nation,” explained Warren. “We’ve worked together well in the past and I’m really excited to be teaming up together again. And this Sheffield show is shaping up to be a great night from the headliner, all the way down through the rest of the card.”

The show will be televised live and exclusive on BoxNation, with WBO European lightweight champion Stephen Ormond will put his title on the line in a potential thriller against Terry Flanagan topping the bill.

All-action Irishman Ormond, recently named WBO European Fighter of the Year, defends his title for the fourth time against his undefeated British rival in a mouth-watering fight that the fight trade has been waiting to see.

British champion Flanagan, who stopped Martin Gethin in July to win the Lonsdale belt, is regarded as boxing’s best-kept secret and a win against Ormond will elevate the exciting Manchester southpaw to another level.

“Stephen is on the brink of a world title shot. The WBO rate him very highly and have just crowned him their European Fighter of the Year and he will be doing everything he can to keep that dream alive,” commented Warren. “The one thing in his way is Terry Flanagan who has his own ambition for world honours, so both guys really do have everything to fight for… this could be a classic.”

Chief support will be in the shape of Sheffield’s Liam Cameron. ‘Cannonball’ picked up his best win last time out in September, when he stopped tough Ghanaian Philip Kotey in four rounds. Negotiations are now underway for the super middleweight to box for a major international title against a ‘name’ opponent, with full details to be announced imminently.

Also on the bill will be a hotly contested derby fight between Dronfield’s Lewis Taylor and Crosspool’s Jez Wilson. Wilson will put his Central Area middleweight title on the line, and the match is also currently being mooted as a Commonwealth title eliminator.

With Adam Etches recently turning down the chance to face him, unbeaten Taylor will want to steal the BoxNation show against Wilson and thrust himself firmly into the British title picture.

“We’re in the process of trying to pull off Liam Cameron in a big title fight, and Lewis Taylor is in a great, local fight for at least Jez’s Central Area title,” explained promoter Hobson. “And of course Terry Flanagan and Stephen Ormond top the bill.

“Liam entered the pro ranks in a blaze of glory after being the first kid in a generation from Sheffield to win the ABAs, but he lost his way a little bit. He left the fold and maybe thought the grass was greener, but he’s back now because he realises ‘why change something that wasn’t broke’. He’s back working with Chris Smedley and Steve Barnes, and he’s back with me. He’s had a couple of decent wins, you can see he’s got the bit between his teeth, and this fight will be a big step towards a major title. We’re getting him this opportunity, and now it’s up to him.

“Adam [Etches] has made every excuse under the sun not to fight Lewis, so he’s not this ‘bomber’ or warrior that he says he is. But credit to Lewis who’ll fight anybody, and we’re now going with another local derby and he’s going to test himself. Jez Wilson isn’t an easy fight, but Lewis wants the fear factor. I guarantee this one will be a humdinger and it could steal the show. If Lewis is going to do anything then he has to beat Jez Wilson, and that’s no disrespect to Jez.”

With the undercard still being firmed up, currently confirmed for the show are Manchester’s Adrian Gonzalez, Sunderland’s Isaac Macleod, Simon Barclay, Bradford’s Femi Fehintola and Sheffield’s Waleed Din, Ramzy Nassa and Loua Nassa.

Tickets are priced at £40 and £100 (ringside) and are available via the ticket line on 0114 243 4443.
