Coldwell Boxing’s chief executive officer Dave Coldwell has once again delivered when it comes to putting on great shows without TV backing.
The man from Rotherham has organised a lightweight showdown between Kieran Farrell and former British champion at 135lbs Anthony Crolla as Farrell bids to retain his English belt. Bowler’s Arena in Manchester will play host to a night that’ll also include the appearance of another former Lonsdale belt holder in the shape of 29-year-old Derry Mathews.
Mathews, 31-8-1 (16), will come up against 32-year-old Joe Elfidh in a scheduled contest of eight rounds.
Dave Coldwell, the promoter of the show, said, “This is undoubtedly a massive step up for Kieran but he’s a fighter heading in the right direction and I feel he could be getting Crolla at the right time.”
Derry Mathews will be a keen ringside spectator upon completion of his eight-rounder, as there could be a possible bout between him and the winner of the main event early in 2013. However, that is yet to be decided.
“Derry Mathews is a fighter that we’re delighted to be promoting on December 7th and we’ve definitely got one eye on him fighting either Farrell or Crolla early next year if everything goes to plan,” said Coldwell when talking about the possibility of a fight between Mathews and the winner.
Finally, Coldwell, who has in his stable young prospects like Hosea Burton, who is expected to feature on ‘The Battle of Manchester’ card, said, “This is a quality little triangle of lightweight fighters and I’m delighted to be working with all three because they all know how to put a good show on for the fans. I’m certain that Derry will get the win and then it’s all eyes on Farrell v Crolla for what should be the ideal fight to end 2012 for Coldwell Boxing.”
